Weekly Growth 3-2-1 Latest Research
(International version is at the bottom)
Cliff Fang
Happy 3-2-1 Thursday!
Quantum Growth latest research: this week’s 3 reflections, 2 quotes, and 1 question:
3 My reflections
1.
In a way, it’s not that our praise is fake—it’s that, deep down, we don’t think highly of the other person, so we can’t say anything genuinely praiseworthy.
A single piece of sincere, heartfelt praise carries more practical value than doing 100 self-congratulatory, thankless favors.
2.
Breakdown of a highly practical niche investing book
— Core insights and actionable notes from the North American investing bestseller How to Buy and Sell Precious Metals
(A) Mindset Framework
Gold and silver aren’t speculation tools, but value transfer tools:
1. The monetary system constantly devalues; governments and central banks can’t stop printing.
2. Gold and silver are “real money” across millennia.
3. The key isn’t “how much it rises” but preserving your purchasing power.
4. True masters use gold and silver to navigate currency collapses and economic cycles.
(B) Practical Strategies
A. Buying Strategy
• Prioritize physical: bullion bars, coins from official mints. Avoid paper gold (derivatives, unallocated—still debt claims with default risk).
• Buy low-premium, standard items: China Panda, Canada Maple Leaf, US Eagle, Swiss PAMP. Avoid high-premium collectibles—your anchor is metal content, not art.
• Buy in tranches: set a plan, don’t all-in at once.
• Secure storage: don’t buy before you’ve planned storage.
• Home safe
• Professional overseas vaults
• Bank safe deposit box (choose carefully)
• Anonymous purchases
• Spread storage across locations to avoid single-point failure.
Record-keeping:
• Purchase price and date
• Weight/specifications and quantity
• Storage location
Action prompt: This week, write down your target gold/silver allocation and design a simple, staggered buying plan.
B. Exit Strategy
• Don’t hold forever—think cyclical rotation.
• Cycle top signals:
• Gold/Dow ratio
• Gold/money supply ratio
• Gold/real estate ratio
• Sell in stages: plan partial exits at extreme overvaluations. Don’t aim for the absolute top—you’ll never hit it perfectly, and don’t need to.
• Value transfer:
• Don’t convert back to fiat to just hold cash.
• Rotate into undervalued productive assets:
• Stocks (after bubble bursts)
• Real estate (post-inflation value dips)
• Commercial land or other hard assets.
Practice prompt: In one sentence, write your “gold/silver exit strategy” specifying what type of assets you’ll switch into at cycle tops.
Author’s key takeaway:
Gold and silver are “wealth insurance.”
It’s not about “I’ll invest once I’m rich,” but about deciding what % of your monthly income and net worth to convert.
Truly smart investors:
1. Understand the scams in the monetary system.
2. Use physical gold and silver to hedge systemic risks.
3. Rotate into undervalued assets when bubbles burst.
— Don’t fall in love with gold and silver; learn to use them well.
3.
Reading is often boring or “useless” because the sequence is wrong.
Many well-read people don’t seem all that smart. I used to (foolishly) disrespect “bookish nerds” for that reason. Yet Charlie Munger said he never met anyone he admired who didn’t read voraciously.
When reading feels dull or unhelpful, it’s often because we started with the wrong “axioms.” Accepting flawed first principles means we read everything else with tinted lenses, reinforcing blind spots.
A better approach: build your foundation first.
• For economics: start with Adam Smith.
• For politics or production relations—whether you lean capitalist or communist—read Marx directly.
• For psychology: start with Freud and Jung.
• For financial freedom: get the basics from Rich Dad Poor Dad and The Richest Man in Babylon.
Reading is like building a house: lay the foundation first, then construct the structure. Occasionally step back and ask: Are the assumptions I believe in actually sound?
Once your foundation is solid, every new book you evaluate or absorb will happen faster, and the new knowledge will spiral into your existing system, making you deeper and more practical with every cycle.
2 Others’ Wisdom
1.
“History tells us that paper money will eventually disappear, but gold will forever shine.”
— Benjamin Franklin
2.
“Silver is the industrial gold, the brother of money.”
— The Future of World Currency (James Rickards)
“Silver’s appeal is that it is both money and industrial metal—a bridge linking the economy and currency.”
— Precious Metals Investment Guide
